Karen Marie Petrillose, Artist, University Place, WA
Born and raised in Watertown, NY, Karen has had the privilege of living in the University Place, WA area since 1999. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance, and has her husband to thank for her creative expansion into painting. As a gift he gave Karen a series of classes with William Hewson of Seattle. She was hooked on watercolor from the very first session. Karen had the opportunity to study with Internationally famous painter Nicholas Simmons (the "bad boy of watercolor") in 2013, which inspired her to make painting a priority in her life. Each day is filled with joy as she experiments with how to put the WOW factor in her work. She loves using subject matter from the wonders around her such as Lakewold Garden, Chambers Bay Golf Course, Gig Harbor Net Sheds, ducks on Waughop Lake.
Hand painted silk scarves are another one of her passions. Some of her work can be found at Creative Forces Gift Shop in the Hotel Murano.
Karen has been the recipient of many awards locally from shows sponsored by the wonderful art leagues in the area: Pacific Gallery Artists, South Hill Artists, Rainier League of Arts and Peninsula Art League. She has also received awards from the WA State Fair, Renton Annual Art Show, Equine Art Show, Lakewood Arts Fest, Lakewood Arts Commission and Proctor Arts Fest. UP for Arts
